Dr. B. P. Lin Awarded the Prestigious IEEE Fellow

Following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee elevated Dr. Bao-Shuh Paul Lin to IEEE Fellow, effective 1 January 2007, with the following citation: for leadership in technology and industry development of broadband information network and digital video.

Dr. B. P. Lin is currently Vice President of Industrial Technology Research Institute and General Director of the Information & Communications Research Laboratories (ICL), and Director of Committee of Communication Industry Development (CoCID), MOEA. In his previous career, he was recruited by Philips Electronics in 1998 to strengthen its R&D capacity and position. He was the key contributor and driving force to the establishment of Philips Research Labs. in East Asia.

Being an influential participant in the industrial technical policy arena, Dr. Lin pioneered major advances in technical innovations and has initiated projects in Broadband Wireless Communications, All-IP Networking & Services, and Mobile Digital Life technologies. All these efforts have exerted tremendous impacts on economic and social benefits as evidenced by the dominant place of Info-comm Technology (ICT) industries of Taiwan in the global market, with more than two-dozen diverse products capturing a top three position in the worldwide markets, and generated around US$100 billion revenue per year.

IEEE fellowship is a recent addition to Dr. Lin’s long list of awards and honors. To cite but a few, he received the TECO Science & Technology Award in 1995 for his personal achievement in information technology, and medals from the Government such as Excellent Large-Scale Technology Development Program (TDP) Award in 1996, 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively for his leadership in carrying out the Distributed Computer Systems, Wireless Communication, and Intelligent Information System Product Development Programs. In 2000, he was a recipient of IEEE Third Millennium Medal and won Outstanding Alumnus Award from his Alma Mater, National Chiao-Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan.
