CCL becomes an official member of EU TIPR

The Computer and Communications Research Laboratories (CCL) of ITRI recently became an official member of European Union Transparent Internet Protocol Radio Access (EU TIPRA). CCL is the 31st R&D partner of EU TIPRA and one of the very few non-EU members. EU TIPRA is renowned for its world-class expertise in the development of wireless communications technologies. Most of its members are EU countries and it has very rigorous membership review criteria for non-EU applicants. The fact that CCL is the first institute in Taiwan to become a member of EU TIPRA reaffirms the research and development capabilities of CCL.

Currently TIPRA has 31 members around the world including research institutes and companies, which specialize in wireless communications. Dr. Bao-Shuh Paul Lin, General Director of CCL, points out " EU TIPRA is bidding for EU projects such as Information Society Technology (IST) - the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) by focusing its researches on Core Network, Middleware, and Radio Access. Through the IST FP6 project, when granted, EU TIPRA will be able to formulate international standards of B3G (Beyond 3G). CCL is mainly involved in the wireless access and has completed a proposal for IST FP6 in conjunction with other TIPRA members."

CCL has accumulated ample experience and capacity in the development of software -defined radio (SDR) as a result of its execution of an advanced technology program sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. CCL's capability in SDR core technologies have been recognized by the international SDR Forum. Moreover, CCL has received recognition from the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) as one of the key players in the field. The recognition from these international communities bears testimony to CCL's leading position in worldwide technology development that will help Taiwan upgrade its role from a technology follower to among pioneers in setting international standards.
