The Information and Communications Research Labs (ICL), formerly called Computer and Communications Research Labs (CCL), is dedicated to upgrading the so-called 3C (computer, communications and consumer electronics) industries in Taiwan. ICL's major R&D areas include focuses on all IP Networking & Services, Wireless Sensor Networks , broadband and wireless communications, and Mobile digital life.
With a strong R &D work force, ICL has earned 1055 international and ROC patents over 15 years since its inception in 1991. Intelligent properties and other technical accomplishments are disseminated to local industries through technology transfers, licensing , spin-offs, and training/consultation.
By incorporating resources from industry, academia, research institutes and international partners, ICL aims to be an important strategic partner for Taiwan's information and communications industry, as well as an internationally renowned ICT technology development center.
ICL has been actively engaged in joint research with both domestic and oversea universities and high-tech companies on the one hand, and participated in international standards setting on the other, so as to strengthen research capabilities and leverage R&D resources worldwide. Current international collaboration partners include Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, Harvard University, Telecordia, NeuStar, and Alcatel, to cite but a few.
